A day before, Sharad Jaitly wrote a beautiful description of the city bus that would take the teenagers from the class of 1973 from Western Nagpur to GMC in 1973. The bus, Sharad recalls, would start from Vayu Sena Nagar- at 6:00 am Lakshmi Rao would be the first student to get into the bus from Vayu Sena Nagar bus stop.
Subsequently the bus would stop at vantage points to let several distinguished students experience the great bus ride: Sharad Jaitly and Rajiv Garg from Seminary Hills; Harish Motwani from Civil Lines, Vivek Kulkarni from Ravi Nagar; Mohan Gupte from Ram Nagar; Sanjay Gadre, Sanjeev Chandorkar, Hema Deoras, Avinash Deshmukh Vinayak Sabnis, Uday Gupte and Renuka Solanki from Laxmi Bhawan; Vandana Khanolkar and Kishor Kedar from Rani Jhansi Square and Shriram Kane from Dhantoli. The bus, Sharad goes down memory lane, would stop at nearly 30 points and would take 90 minutes to cover a distance of 15 km … Please help us complete the list because, many students, I believe, havenโt found a place in the bus as yet….. Perhaps Ravindra Jharia and others from Nagpur could help us accurately locate the students, the bus stops and the route the bus would take to complete the journey! In the accompanying photograph, you would see that I have used Google Map to draw the route, but surely many of these roads didn’t exist in 1973.
