MGIMS started in 1969. Not sure if Sevagram would offer them a post-graduation during the formative years, the students from the first four batches toiled tenaciously to obtain the coveted qualification by moving out after internship.
Here are some interesting numbers from the 1969 to 1972 MGIMS batches.
Eight MGIMS students, from the 1969-1972 batches, obtained their post-graduations from MGIMS: Santosh Gupta (Pathology), Sharad Mahakalkar (Community Medicine), Mohan Adyalkar (Community Medicine), Narayan Ingole (Pathology), Sharad Badole (Anaesthesiology), Ashish Kulkarni (Medicine), Anil Malhotra (Community Medicine) and Rekha Tare [Manisha Koranne] (Physiology).
And 135 MGIMS graduates did so from other medical colleges: BJ Medical College (20), Grant Medical College, Mumbai (10), KEM Mumbai (6), and GMC Nagpur (7) were the most favorite colleges for seeking post-graduation.
