After a long and fulfilling professional journey, Raymond retired on 28 August 2023, a day before his birthday. Retirement, however, has hardly slowed him down. Living in Christ Church, Barbados, he has settled into a life that balances leisure, creativity, and lifelong passions.
Most mornings find him by the sea with one of his brothers, a ritual he follows five times a week. He continues to teach ballroom dancing, now focusing exclusively on mentoring dancers who aspire to qualify as internationally recognised teachers through the International Dance Teachers’ Association (IDTA). Music also remains central to his life, and he continues to sing with the Myriad Singers choir.
Though he has reduced his farming activities, he still maintains an active interest in the land, albeit without the rabbits and sheep that once formed part of his rural life. Over the years, his journey has evolved from social dance and opera into a broader life of artistic and cultural engagement.
Family remains a deep source of pride and joy. His elder daughter, Juliette Maughan, who holds degrees in international relations, psychology, Spanish, law, economics, and accounts, works with the United Nations in Barbados. She has a son, Moses Watson. His son, Christopher Maughan, an audio engineer, runs his own recording studio in Barbados and, along with his wife Sherryann, is raising their two children, Jacob and Naomi. His younger son, Stephen Maughan, works as a videographer and lives in Barbados with his wife, Zaeena.
